About
I’m Debbie Hale. My love for ceramics started in 2008 during my very first class at Featherstone Center for the Arts on Martha’s Vineyard. I felt an immediate connection with clay. I was hooked and haven’t stopped since! I continue to study and grow through classes at Featherstone, Castle Hill Center for the Arts and the John Campbell Folk School.
Throwing on the pottery wheel is very meditative to me. Learning to create different shapes has heightened my awareness about new ways to interpret the objects around me in my daily life. Working with color and how glazes interact and meld together, inspires me as you’ll see in my pieces.
My home studio is located on Martha’s Vineyard where I spend countless hours in the world of clay and glazes! The community of potters on the Vineyard and the Cape has enriched my world and fills my days with new friends and joyful experiences.
When I’m not in my studio creating, I am teaching. I enjoy sharing the creative process of working with clay to others. I am most proficient on the wheel, but enjoy hand-building as well. I encourage my students to try projects where they will stretch themselves but also find success.
